Directive title [Year] - [Directive ID code]:

Čej Front? [1931] - [D019]

Concise description of the directive:

Some Front editors are members of individual MORP national sections. They have declared their solidarity with the Kharkov Congress.
Yet in the first four issues, there are no statements reflecting a single position of the editorial team on the issues of the current international political situation and the international literary movement:
– what do you think about the crisis of capitalism and its prospects?
– what do you think is the role of the USSR in international relations?
– what do you think of the preparation of imperialist wars, especially those against the USSR?
– what do you think about the danger of fascism and social fascism?

Abominable examples of bourgeois mysticism and eroticism whose social function is not in doubt, as well as Gino Saviotti’s idyllic ramblings on the literature of Italy as it is suffocated and trampled on by fascism, are published alongside Mayakovsky’s texts.
Barbusse is a sincere revolutionary who unfortunately did not have time to bury his last petty-bourgeois illusions (the ‘above-class’s objectivism of Barbusse, editor of ‘Monde’). In a class society, any publishing house serves above all as a channel for ideology, politics and certain class interests.
The crisis of capitalism leads the petty-bourgeois masses (who have lost their reference point in society) towards the proletariat, including in the field of literature. A proletarian revolutionary association like MORP must educate and lead these poputchiki into battle against capitalism.
The petty-bourgeois will vacillate, but the revolutionary association must know how to guide them: set goals, monitor results, criticise about-faces and pusillanimous ways, and organise them properly. At the same time, the bourgeois careerists will try to take advantage of this situation; we must eliminate them from our ranks.
‘Front’, however, has not commented on this MORP resolution; on the contrary, it comes close to the socialist and fascist defence of fascism! In some published articles, Bolshevism is placed alongside fascism.

PERHAPS:
it must be explained to readers through literary works, theoretical studies, general normative articles and literary critical articles:
– that Bolshevism and fascism are enemies
– that fascism is a form of bourgeois democracy that exists during imperialist wars and proletarian revolutions

POETRY SHOULD NOT BE AESTHETIC, SEXUAL, MYSTICAL or exotic, it should not have a resigned attitude, or include philosophical relativism.
WHY NO SEX?
Not to be prudish, but because to write about sex is to affirm that human nature is always the same in all epochs, the struggle of instincts that cannot be changed, and that revolution cannot transform human nature. And this is not true.

Conclusion:
FRONT MUST ASSOCIATE ITSELF WITH THE RESOLUTIONS OF THE KHARKOV CONGRESS.
