Directive title [Year] - [Directive ID code]:

"Naši blizajšie zadači". Vstupitel'noe slovo tovarišča Stavskogo na soveščanii oboronnyh pisatelej 17 fevralja (di V. Stavskij) [20-02-1937] - [D021]

Concise description of the directive:

The importance of this Pushkin exhibition and these Pushkin anniversary commemorations cannot be overestimated. All peoples of the Soviet Union were involved in these events, all peoples welcomed and honoured the great Russian poet. Faced with the might of our great homeland, our enemies try to gather together to attempt to strike us. We writers must be strong. Indeed, Comrade Stalin said that the weak would be struck down. The poetic word is our weapon, and it plays a huge role in the overall power of the USSR. We have to ensure the action of this weapon and decide how to continue the work. Our literature is at a lower stage of development than other productive sectors in our country. Some critics hinder our work. In particular, the critic Igor Sats suggests we should not be too fierce with our enemies. Such a suggestion is completely absurd. We must identify the hostile elements in our environment and eradicate them from our ranks. We must be ready for the war conceived by the fascists.
