Directive typology: Essay on Aleksandr Pushkin
Concise description of the directive:
Pushkin is the creator and reformer of the Russian literary language, and this is his greatest historical merit to the Russian people. Today, the language of the Russian people has become that of victorious socialism, which is expanding throughout the world. The Russian language was neglected by the nobility in the 18th and early 19th centuries; Pushkin fought for its transformation as he thought the Russian language should help the nobility communicate with the people and become a mirror of reality. Pushkin’s revolution in language was called upon as part of the revolution against the feudal political order in the country. Pushkin’s merit was also to ennoble vernacular words and expressions by using them alongside those of the courtly style. Pushkin’s struggle is akin to that of Mayakovsky for the new language of the proletarian revolution. [The journal issue is dedicated to the commemoration of Mayakovsky].
