Concise description of the directive:
Following the international conference of proletarian writers in Kharkov, it was realised that proletarian literature in capitalist countries is reaching a new and higher level. The tasks of literature are closely related to ideological and revolutionary tasks, and proletarian literature is the fighting weapon of the proletariat. In examining the problem of proletarian style, the conference started from the extent to which a particular literary form fully satisfies the revolutionary task of the working class. The conference also raised the question of the allies of the proletarian literary movement, as well as the “revolutionary re-education” of representatives of the petty-bourgeoisie.
