“Pravda” requires of our critics “the ability to detect alien and hostile tendencies… disguised with all kinds of verbal or linguistic devices”. In his articles on language, Gorky rightly stated that errors in a writer’s language reflect errors in his thinking. We need to detect the relationships that exist between the conceptual content and its form. We must develop a single literary critical system, a single terminology to describe a literary work. We must eliminate the gulf between ideological analysis and the “technique” of literature.
