Directive title [Year] - [Directive ID code]:

Reč' tov. A. Tolstogo (discorso di A. Tolstoj) [10-07-1937] - [D047]

Concise description of the directive:

The treasures of the fine arts and humanistic thought are our heritage. We are building the art of revolution, the art of the new man. Our readers, in the name of this great art, have taken away from André Gide, a great designer, the honour of being called “a popular writer”. Our art is as realistic as the earth under the sun; it is universal because it is created by the creative impulses of the popular masses. Thanks to education, art is an indispensable part of the life of the Soviet people, no longer an additional ornament or a useless dream. There are 2 concepts of internationalism. 1: internationalism proper to the proletariat, where the feeling for the fatherland grows and expands to the feeling for the whole of humanity. Accepting one’s ethnicity by entering a classless society: this is the path followed by our literature. 2: False internationalism; the indifference that makes people renounce their own ethnicity. Such is Trotsky’s internationalism.
