Politicheskaya poeziya is a transversal concept that embraces all genres. By fighting for political poetry, we are fighting for the ideological growth of all Soviet poetry, for poetry endowed with Pushkinian clarity and simplicity, for the poetry of vital experience inseparable from the political goals of the Soviet people. One should not pit lyric poetry against political poetry. Soviet poetry must be linked to the political and social problems of today. Comrade N. Usievich (“Literaturnoye obozreniye”) received harsh criticism for speaking out against the prevalence of the political genre in Soviet poetry in times of peace: according to her, the reader needs a more intimate and less politicised poetry.
