Underlying all Soviet literature, and dramaturgy in particular, is the method of socialist realism. Dramaturgy must be a means of political education of the masses and must have a good artistic quality. We must fight against the danger of formalism, but above all we must ensure that dramaturgy fulfils the task of the political education of the masses through its own artistic means. The goals of the play are to root the new political order, the new relationships, the new ethics, the new ideal, the new way of considering labour, socialist property and socialist discipline in the consciousness of the citizens.
