Directive title [Year] - [Directive ID code]:

Diskussija o socialističeskom realizme [05-06-1933] - [D094]

Concise description of the directive:

1. V. Kirpotin argues that not all truths expressed by an artist are correct. There is a realist prose that is only realist from an external point of view (e.g. that of Ivan Bunin). Kirpotin establishes the presence of a positivist, blind truth in art that does not consider reality from the perspective of its development. The realist style is synthetic. While in bourgeois literature there is a gap between romanticism and realism, the synthetic character of socialist realism consists in the fact that in this style the romantic image of reality does not deviate from the realistic one.
2. M. Serebryansky argues that critics should direct writers by showing them the points to which they should pay attention. The role of the critic must play a more important role in literary production.
3. T. Nusinov states that although only the realist, and not the romantic, style is the only style in proletarian literature, romantic elements that do not contradict the reality of life should not be excluded from a realist narrative.
4. Voytinskaya says that describing life realistically by showing major historical changes means following an innovative path.
